Club Cross Country Championship Standings 2008/9

There were some fine individual performances from White Horse Harriers in the latest round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League at Banbury on Sunday, 4 January 2008. The wintry conditions meant that the ground remained frozen through all the races.
For the juniors the best finisher was again Sophie Lloyd, who, following another good run, finished 3rd in the U13 girls race in 8:47. After her performances in the previous races she is currently second in the overall standings. Supported by Josephine Harrison (14th) and Chloe Craze (24th) the team finished 3rd.
The U13 boys fielded two full teams this time. For the second–placed A team, first home was Zac Olliffe 7th in 8:50. Alex Brennan 15th in 9:35 just beat 17th–placed Fraser Murphy–Hand to complete the team. Dominic Banham 20th, Tom Froud 22th and Sam Cornick 23rd completed the B Team which finished 10th out of 13 finishing teams.
Unfortunately in the U15/17 girls category we failed to field a complete team, but Bethan Murphy–Hand finished well in 6th place, with Rachel Bedford 31st.
Alex Mills and Anthony Holmes had a great battle in the U15/17 boys race, with Alex coming out on top, finishing 10th in 17:21. Anthony Holmes was just 8 seconds behind in 12th. Alastair Paterson in 32nd completed the team which finished 5th.
The best of the White Horse Harrier finishers was Frances Briscoe who won the women’s race in 17:09. Backed by Carolyn Murphy in 39th and Clare Hazell (63rd) the A Team finished 5th. The B Team of Karen Froud, Ana Ramos-Villaverde and Sharon Bedford finished 19th in Division 2.
For the men Job King was second in 26:57 behind Headington’s Steve Kimber. Paul Jégou (10th in 27:58) and Stuart Shilston (38th in 30:31) completed the top 3 Harriers home. Backed by the rest of the club the A Team finished 3rd in Division 1.
We look forward to seeing you all out there competing in the next event which will be the Oxfordshire County Cross Country Championships to be held at Horspath, Oxford next wekend.

Below are the tables for the club’s Junior Cross Country Championships for 2008/9 showing the current standings of our competing runners.
A reminder of the rules for the Junior Cross Country Championships:
- In each championship series race 10 points are awarded to first Harrier in each age group, 8 for second, 6 for third, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 – and if there are more than eight Harriers in a race everyone will score at least 1 point.
- Championship series races are all the Oxford Mail Leagues, all the club timetrials, plus the BB&O and Oxfordshire Championships.
- Everyone scores an additional point for participation in any extra (non–championship series) races and a 3 point bonus for county selection.
- All school Year 4s (– and Year 3s if any younger brothers and sisters want to run timetrials) will count as Under 9s in our championship.
- The runner with the most points in each age group at the end of the season will be rewarded with a trophy (although runners must have participated in at least 4 events to be eligible for the trophy).
- Everyone who participates in at least 4 events will also receive a medal.
