Club Cross Country Championship Final Standings 2006/7

Last updated: Tuesday, 8 May, 2007 Dene Stringfellow in his element at the 2006/7 Culham Park round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League.

After our successes of last season in both the ladies’ and men’s events it has been Robert Bowles in the under 17 men’s category who has shone this season consistently finishing in the top three – including a first place at Cirencester. That consistency has seen Robert win the Oxford Mail League under 17 men’s category this season. Congratulations go to Robert for his outstanding performance.

Unfortunately, the ladies struggled this time round which is a real shame after their second place in the top division last year. This was largely due to illness, injury and new arrivals(!) which took its toll on our already stretched resources of competing ladies despite Frances Briscoe’s victory at Cirencester and two second place finishes at Ascott–Under–Wychwood and Banbury.

The highlight of this cross country season has been Frances Briscoe’s fine victory at the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Championships which were held at Maidenhead in November last year. Congratulations go again to Frances for her outstanding result.

Sadly, both the senior men’s and ladies’ teams have been relegated from the top division of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League this season. The relegation of the men’s team from the first division has probably been less of a surprise as it was largely due to the performances of our university students who kept us in the top division last year.

It just goes to show how fickle this sport can be! Let’s hope we can turn things round next season and get our men and ladies back up into the top division again where we belong.

Below is the table for the club’s men’s cross country championship for 2006/7 after the final event of the season held at Banbury on Sunday 4 March.
