Club Cross Country Championship Standings 2007/8

The Briscoes cleaning up at the Oxford Mail League Awards.

It doesn’t seem like 5 minutes since we started out in the mist at Ascott–Under–Wychwood last November – how time flies when you’re wading through the mud and getting soaked to the skin! throughout the course of the season the weather and running conditions have, I would suggest, been far less demanding than in previous. Memories of the running river beside the railway line at Banbury, the mudbaths at Parliament Hill and trying to stay out of the canal on the Terminator are all recent but this season the conditions have been relatively benign by comparison. That is not to take anything away from the courses, they still all had to be negotiated adding their own, unique spice to the melting pot which constituted our cross country season.

At Horspath for the final event of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League the conditions were near perfect and so there were no excuses. As long as you stood out of the wind it could have been a summer’s day! What more could you wish for. The only question we were asking ourselves - particularly the men - was where were all those defectors when we needed them most? I won’t name any names, but ... "Gungho Chapman", "Mudlark" Cooke, "Jockey" Shilston and "Babyface" Wilder all spring to mind!

We enjoyed another great turnout and although the Harriers didn’t win any of the races at the Horspath meeting some notable overall successes achieved with the Briscoe family well to the fore, generally putting the organisers’ noses out of joint by winning practically everything they entered – shame on you Angela for letting the side down by only finishing second in the Vet55 category. Frances and Frank won the Senior Women’s and Vet60 Men’s titles respectively, and the ladies team took the second division title to ensure a swift return to the top division.

Any reports, photographs and results of your exploits throughout the season would be greatly appreciated by either Paul Jégou or Dene Stringfellow – if you want to see The Harrier continuing to flourish, you will need to supply the material!

Below is the final table (subject to final adjustements or corrections) for the club’s men’s cross country championship for 2007/8 showing the final standings of our participating runners.

Please also note, if you find or are aware of any error(s), I would be grateful if you would inform me so I can update the results tables accordingly – providing I have corroborating evidence, of course!
