My First Cross Country Race

Event: Oxford Mail League Cross Country – Round 1
Time: 10:00am
Date: Sunday, 5 November 2006
Venue: Ascott–under–Wychwood

I really enjoyed my first race at Ascott–under–Wychwood although I found it very hard work. When the race started I was surprised at how quickly everyone sped away. At first I was the last but one runner in the field, but once I settled into my rhythm I felt more comfortable and I managed to catch up with and overtake several other runners.

Liam’s first cross country race experience.

As I was half way through the race I went past the water splash and I was glad that I didn’t have to go through it because it looked very cold, deep and muddy! As I neared the end of the race there was an extremely long, steep hill to climb and by now I had a really bad stitch in my side.

As I came up the hill I could hear people cheering, and this gave me some encouragement to put on a last spurt of energy. I ran as hard as I could and managed to overtake someone right at the finish. I was exhausted but pleased with my performance because it was my first ever cross country race.
