Kintbury Splash & Dash

Event: Ollie Johnson Memorial Kintbury 5 Mile Run
Time: 10:30am
Date: Monday, 28 May 2007
Venue: Kintbury Recreation Ground

One of the most popular runs for White Horse Harriers was this year decimated by the torrential rain and wind, however six brave badge–carrying Harriers did brave the conditions. One of the six, Jason Cooke, (second last year), did cover the course although not consistently in a clockwise direction.

The race is mostly on tarmac, although there are sections of wooded paths, concrete roads, grass, gravel, and, of course, water.

Although I didn’t run (baby sitting duties) I was proud to see the sixth member of the ‘Smeddle Harriers’ (Suzy) pull on the green vest with the famous (but poorly drawn) white horse on the front. Another debutant and possibly a seventh WHH was Sarah’s sister.

As for Jason, having set off in a clockwise direction, he then decided to buck with tradition and go through the mile markers in descending order. When he met up with Sarah’s sis, he retraced his steps … confused, the time keeper was! Not sure how many times Jason crossed the finishing line, or how many miles he did, however they finally clocked him in 200th place.

Talking about miles covered, the distance of this race has always been a cause of concern, a Garman wearer confirmed what we had always suspected that this is in fact the Kintbury 4.8
