Club Road Race Championship Races 2010

Last updated: Monday, 15 November, 2010 Dan Peace and John Peake battling it out at the 2009 Headington 10k.

The 2010 road race championship campaign is upon us once again and with it come some slight modifications to the proceedings. All in the interest of variety, of course! This year’s club championship series will comprise 13 races of which each competitor’s best 8 results will count towards their final club championship standing.

Counting as one of the 13 races will be the option for competitors to include one marathon event of their own choice. The points awarded to competitors will be based upon their comparative recorded times at the end of the club championship season – Monday, 19 October 2010. Competitors will be required to notify the Road Race Secretary in advance of their intention to compete in their chosen marathon event.

The rules determining the outcome in the event of a tie between competitors are as follows:

1) In the event of a tie between two or more competitors the overall standings will be determined by the points totals earned in direct competition between the athletes concerned.

2) If a race included in the club road race championships is cancelled and provided the cancellation no less than 6 weeks from the end of the road race season the road race secretary will endeavour to find a suitable and equivalent event to put forward to the club committee as a replacement.

3) The club committee’s decision on the selection of the replacement event will be final. All members will be notified of the replacement championship event as soon as possible following the decision of the committee.

Given that this year’s championship comprise 13 events of which 8 count there should be sufficient races to allow for the worst case scenario where a race is cancelled and is unable to be replaced.

The inclusion of one marathon of choice in the club championship events proved a success in the 2009 championships and therefore has been included again for this year’s championships.

Note: Over the past few years White Horse Harriers AC has been allocated 3 club places in the London Marathon. This has not always been the case and previously we have only been allocated 2 club places. The number of places allocated to the club is based upon the level of competing members in the club at the time of application.

To avoid any issues or confusion in how the club places are awarded the rules dictating how club London Marathon places are awarded are as follows:

Awarding of Club London Marathon Places:

  1. 1) One club place will be awarded each to the overall men’s and women’s Road Race Champion of the preceeding season.
  2. 2) If the overall men’s champion declines his offer of a place in the London Marathon it will be offered to the veteran men’s champion.
  3. 3) If the veteran men’s champion also declines the offered club London Marathon place it will be added to the club place prize draw to be held at the club Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  4. 4) If the overall women’s champion declines her offer of a place in the London Marathon it will be offered to the veteran women’s champion.
  5. 5) If the veteran women’s champion also declines the offered club London Marathon place it will be added to the club place prize draw to be held at the club AGM.
  6. 6) If the club is allocated more than 2 club places the additional places will automatically be added to the club place prize draw to be held at the club AGM.
  7. 7) If there is no overall or veteran road race champion for the preceeding year the respective club places will automatically be added to the club place prize draw to be held at the club AGM.
  8. 8) In order to qualify for the club place prize draw the following rules will apply:
    1. a) Entry to the competition is restricted to one entry per person.
    2. b) The entrant must a current White Horse Harriers AC member.
    3. c) The entrant must be present at the club AGM to enter themselves into the draw.
    4. d) The entrant must be present at the prize draw to accept the club place offer.
    5. e) No entrant may stand in on behalf of another member.
    6. f) The committee’s decision is final and no correspondance will be entered in to.
  9. 9) The prize draw for the club London Marathon places will take place on the evening of the club AGM which is normally held at the end October.

So Harriers, prepare yourselves for competition and make a determined effort to relieve Paul Jégou, Clare Hazell and John Peake of their hard–earned championship crowns.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Road Race Secretary if you have any questions regarding the 2010 club championships.

Below is the list of the races that makes up our club road race championship for the 2010 season – not forgetting the option to include one marathon event of your own choice.
