Club Road Race Championship Positions 2007

Last updated: Friday, 21 September, 2007

After all the effort over the past months the Cotswold Classic ten-mile road race proved to be the stage where both the men’s and ladies’ club championship was decided out on the roads around Witney.

Once again Jason Cooke led the White Horse Harriers home, this time finishing in 20th position overall and doing so retained the club’s men’s road race championship. He was followed home by Chris Wilder who crossed the line in 54th place.

Simon Atkin, who was the third Harrier to finish, came home in 91st position and, in so doing, has amassed an unassailable lead in the club’s veteran category of the men’s road race championship. This has brought to an end Jeremy Smeddle’s record run of 4 consecutive championships in the men’s veteran category, despite a valiant effort on Jeremy’s part.

Good performances also saw Simon Leech cross the finish line a mere 10 seconds behind in 94th place overall, Graham Wiggins a short distance behind in 106th position. with Nick Portsmouth completing course in 199th place.

As the sole representative for our ladies in this event Sarah Baker picked up maximum championship points finishing in 185th place and thereby capturing the club’s ladies’ road race championship title.

Congratulations go to Jason Cooke who has once again retained the title he has held for the past 5 years, and, after a consistent run of strong performances, to Sarah Baker who becomes the newly crowned ladies’ champion for the first time. Likewise, congratulations to Simon Atkins for taking the men’s veterans title in his first full season with the club.

Below is the table for the White Horse Harriers’ men’s road race championship for 2007 after the seventh event of the season held at Witney on Sunday, 9 September.
