Club Road Race Championship Standings 2008
Last updated: Sunday, 31 August, 2008The fifth and final round of this year’s Mota–vation race series organised by Kidlington Road Runners took place on Thursday evening with the host venue being the Oxford Harlequins Rugby Club. It provided the opportunity for some of our more recent members to prove themselves alongside our established Harriers. As the road race season – as far as the club championships are concerned – approaches its final quarter the rivalry between the main protagonists for the championship titles made for a competitive affair.
With his fourth race win in this year’s series, Stephen Kimber of Windsor, Slough and Eton secured the 2008 overall series victory at Oxford. In another closely fought race Stephen outpaced Stephen Male of Oxford City AC to finish clear by just 3 seconds in a time of 20:44. Paul Jégou again led our White Horse Harriers across the line finishing in 17th place in a time of 21:10. Jason Cooke was the next Harrier over the line (24th) just 21 seconds behind.
John Peake continued a consistent string of performances to finish as 3rd Harrier and our first veteran across the line in 77th position. He was followed home by newcomer, Dan Peace, (88th), Simon Leech (101st), Simon Atkin (124th), Mark Godden (140th) and Don Burrows (165th) to finish as first veteran Harrier across the line.
Nikki Smith of Witney Road Runners secured the ladies overall series title with her victory at Oxford. With 5 wins out of 5 Nikki confirmed her domination of this year’s ladies event by finishing in 26th position overall in 22:37 over a minute ahead of her nearest challenger Kate Jacobs of Swindon Harriers (43rd). Claire Hazell, our only Harrier lady representative, cross the finish line in 248th position in a time of 34:43 to secure maximum points and leapfrog Sarah Baker to the top of the club’s ladies championships leader board.
